Departures

On the 9th December 1960 we said goodbye to Mrs. Margaret Connor, who had been receptionist/telephonist at Belvedere since August 1956. A departure from Belvedere of a different nature was the demolition of the cottage of our former fitter foreman Mr. Harry Bishop. The cottage, which was close to the works, had been Mr. Bishop’s home for the past thirty-six years.

The cottage, made completely of wood, was built in 1870, and was the only one of it’s kind in the area. During the clearing of the cottage Henry Bishop. Mr Bishop’s son, found a copy of the Daily Telegraph dated 14 June, 1877.
